Safety

The safety of our students is paramount, and we know that it is the number one concern for parents when choosing a language school overseas.

Being away from home can sometimes be difficult for younger children, which is why we focus on creating a warm welcoming family atmosphere that provides support and comfort to our students.

Percival takes its responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of students very seriously; and to work to ensure adequate processes are in place to identify, assess, and support any student who is suffering harm, distress, neglect, abuse or injury.

We work extremely hard in order to ensure comprehensive training for all our staff. Our designated Student Protection Officer  is responsible for the overall welfare of all our students and to provide awareness discussion and guidance for all members of staff.

Child Protection and Safeguarding

Arriving and Departing

All Percival students must arrive on a Sunday any time between 09:00 – 17:00
All Percival students must depart on a Saturday before 12:00 noon

A Percival representative will meet your child at the airport and escort them by private coach/taxi to The Cedars and/or Oliver House. After check-in at the office, the student will visit their house and bedroom, then join the activity sessions.

On Mondays we host a welcome assembly where our new students will learn about the timetable, activities and the Code of Chivalry.

At the end of their English course a Percival representative will escort the student back to the airport, assist with check-in and take them as far as passport control.

Parents can collect students from the campuses should they prefer prior to midday on the day of departure.

Staff Recruitment

All Percival employees have a full and active part to play in protecting our students from harm, and are dedicated to every student’s welfare. We ensure that our selection and recruitment of staff meet the requirements as set down in guidance provided by the Department for Education and Skills.

We carefully select our staff and undertake references and ask for police / criminal records checks to ensure that all employees are suitable to work with minors.

All our staff are fully inducted to provide a caring, positive, safe and stimulating environment.

Our Welfare Team

Our team provides students and group leaders with 24 hour support on campus. Parents and agents have easy access to senior management because we, the directors, live on campus throughout the summer programme.

Student Supervision

All students are supervised by house managers, teachers and activity leaders living on campus. Staff supervise all houses during the day and night and there are security services to patrol the campus during the night.

Healthcare

We have a medical centre on campus, “the Infirmary”, which is open to all students. There is access to a qualified nurse 24 hours a day. In the event of an emergency or should a student feel unwell, a house parent will arrange an immediate visit to a local hospital.

  • EU citizens should bring their E111 Health Insurance card
  • Non-EU citizens should carry health insurance for emergencies
  • Any non-urgent medical appointments for example: eye specialist, dentist, etc, can be arranged but there is usually a charge
  • All medical information will be held confidentially by the nurse

Family Accommodation

All students aged between 7-17 years old are asked to reside at one of the Percival campuses for the full duration of their Quest so that they get the most out of the summer programme experience.

Should parents choose to stay nearby, we are happy to assist with a selection of local B&B’s and/or central London hotels.
